A DIY Paver Project Doesn’t have to Look like a DIY Job

Bedrock Industries can provide a variety of different Orlando pavers for your next paver project. If you’re thinking about installing the pavers on your own, but you’re worried about the quality of work, Bedrock can teach you how to make that DIY paver project not look like a DIY job. Here are some tips to help you get started.

  • Prevent Weeds: In order to prevent weeds from growing inside of the paver joints, be sure your paver area is dry and turn the joint sand hard by using mortar or sand that would not allow any weeds to grow in the paver joints. This helps you prevent weeds down the road, helping with annoying weed maintenance, too.
  • It’s All About the Base: The way for your paver job to look like a professional did it by making sure all the pavers are tight together. This is where the right paver base is important, and it comes down to the specific type of gravel. If you lay the gravel foundation correctly, then it will turn into a hard surface, like concrete.
  • Compact Soil: When installing the right gravel foundation, you’ll have to ensure that you compact the soil that you’re laying the base on. Without following through with this step, you’ll find that your paver installation could settle more than ½” in 30 days.
  • Compact Gravel Base: After you compact the soil, make sure that you compact the gravel base after it’s laid. Most DIY installations forget to do this step, and if you don’t achieve near complete compaction, it’s likely you didn’t have the correct moisture content. So, in order to achieve the correct moisture content, you’ll need to add water to the base during compaction.
  • How’s the Cut?: Make sure your cuts look professional and are on point. The first thing that someone will identify a poor installation is if the cuts are bad.
