How to Clean Your Stone Pavers

You finally designated the time, energy, and funding to replace that concrete slab driveway with a beautiful installation of paving stones. You’re in love with the intricate design and the unique color that goes great with your exterior landscaping and decor. To keep your Orlando pavers looking like new, it’s important to complete annual or twice-a-year cleaning. While maintenance is very simple, it’s imperative to the life of your paved surface.

  1. Sweep the loose particles away. Start your annual paved-surface cleaning by using a stiff broom or leaf blower to removal all loose material from the surface of the stones. Be careful not to dislodge or remove too much sand from the joints of your pavers in the process.

  2. Lightly scrub dirt away with soapy water. Use a broom and weak soapy water to scrub away any remaining dirt. A pressure washer can be used but it is not recommended because it could destroy the integrity of the pavers if it’s overused.

  3. Clean unsightly and tough oil stains. If you notice any oil stains on a patch of pavers, use an oil removing cleaner and gently scrub the stain away with a wash cloth. If the stain is not oil, use a different cleaning that is appropriate for the stained surface.

  4. Rinse the surface. Once you’ve finished cleaning, use plenty of water to remove all the soap and excess dirt.

  5. Fill in loose joint sand. During cleaning you may find that some of the joint sand has become loose or has been washed away. Simply replace the missing sand between the paving blocks that appear to have very little joint sand.

Another regular maintenance you should be completing on your Orlando pavers is the treatment of weeds growing in the joints. Every few months you should consider applying a weed killer to your pavers. It’s recommended that your weed killer be applied a few days before cleaning so the treatment has plenty of time to seep into the soil. Try to select the organic and non toxic weed preventative solutions to ensure children, pets, ponds, and local wildlife are not harmed. If your paved surface is already displaying signs of a weed infestation, remove the majority of the weeds before applying treatment.
