Types of Brick

There are many different types of brick because there are many different uses for this popular building material. Brick is used in the construction of buildings, patios, pools, sidewalks, and even driveways. Certain types of brick are used for the interior of buildings and other types of brick are placed around in-ground pools. Here are a few of the types of brick commonly used in construction jobs:

Vee-Brick: This type of brick is a thin veneer-face brick that is now being used in both traditional ceramic wall tile type installations and wall panel systems. Vee-Bricks are much thinner than traditional (full-bed depth) brick. Using this thin brick can be much cheaper than using traditional brick because of its reduced weight. Vee-Bricks can be used for interior walls, where traditional brick would be impractical.

Coping Products: Hard fired clay coping is used for the edging of swimming pools because these bricks keep their color forever and do not fade from exposure to the sun or bleed from contact with the pool’s chemicals.

Brick-Tile: These thin brick pavers have the classic brick shape without the roughness or thickness of ordinary brick pavers. Brick-Tiles are slip-resistant, easy to clean, and are commonly used for patio flooring.

The color of brick is determined by the raw materials it contains, the additives and coatings applied to the surface, and the method used to fire the brick. Additives blended into the clay mixture can create unique color completely through the brick.
