What are the Different Types of Driveway Pavers Available for Your Home?

All of the different types of driveway pavers can make it difficult to figure out which type might be best for you. Here are some differences between them.

Decorative Concrete Pavers

These are manufactured pavers that use a blend of concrete that can have color and design elements added to them to get a specific look and feel.

Design – Decorative concrete pavers are a favorite of many customers for many reasons. The biggest one being that there are more design and color options available for concrete pavers than any other kind of paver. They can be designed to look just like natural stone and new designs and shapes are created all of the time.

Cost – Concrete Pavers are typically 20% cheaper than clay pavers of similar quality. The difference is mainly in the higher installation cost of installing clay pavers. The uniform size of concrete pavers means that less cutting is necessary and takes less time to install as a result. Concrete is also cheaper to manufacture than brick.

Easy to Work With – Concrete pavers are cut to consistent dimensional sizes and thus assuring that little cutting and shaping are necessary when using them within a project. Because of this consistency, they are easier to work with than clay pavers which tend to have some variability in size, shape, and color.

Durability – Both clay and concrete pavers are very durable, with clay pavers lasting generations and concrete pavers able to resist the chipping and cracking that is natural to brick. Because of the Portland cement mixed into concrete pavers they have a higher compressive strength than clay bricks, making them extremely durable.

Decorative Clay Pavers

Prefer the old-fashioned look? Then take a closer look at our clay pavers, just another product in our driveway pavers product line.

Clay pavers have been used for centuries as an all-purpose building material. Outdoors, clay pavers are commonly used for patios, walkways, and in retaining walls but not as often in high-traffic areas. For hardscape features that will see a lot of traffic, concrete pavers are better because of the Portland cement in them has a higher compressive strength than clay bricks, making them extremely durable.

Very Colorfast – Because bricks are colored naturally by various compositions of clays, they retain that color far better than concrete pavers where the color can fade, especially if exposed to a great deal of UV light over time.

Low Maintenance – Clay pavers resist wear and tear better than concrete pavers, and still tends to look good even with a little wear and tear. Clay pavers require little maintenance, easy to clean, and stain-resistant.

Ages Well – Where concrete pavers start to look worn out with the aggregate used to produce them beginning to show, clay pavers still look good with robust colors, even when they are worn and chipped.

Eco-Friendly – Clay pavers are made from natural materials and are frequently salvaged and reused in new projects.

Permeable Commercial Pavers

A permeable paver is a specifically designed type of concrete paver used to help manage water from storms by absorbing and filtering it through the pavement into the stone and aggregate underneath. This helps manage stormwater overflow by slowly filtering the water and returning it back to the water table.
