What is a Link Block Retaining Wall?

A link block retaining wall is constructed of interlocking, modular concrete blocks that are used to to restrain a sloping hill to create a solid, flat front. Without a landscape retaining wall, a sloped area, such as a hill, is wasted space for the landscaping. Ultimately, all landscape retaining walls serve to hold back a vertical or near-vertical face of soil that would, without adequate retention, would cave, slump or slide to a more natural slope.  The unique design of linking retaining walls is that it becomes stronger, even when the walls are higher and steeper. You can use backfill in order to turn your hills into useful, flat, tiered landscaping beds or just add a nice touch to the look and feel to the outside of your home.

Features of Linking Retaining Walls

There are many features to consider when looking at linking retaining walls:

  • Retaining wall blocks can be installed to lock together on both the vertical and horizontal plane.
  • The design makes it easy to construct curves and 90-degree corners.
  • A wide variety of retaining wall block colors are available that can be installed with matching decorative concrete pavers for a unified look.
  • Can be installed in a number of ways: as a freestanding fence, retaining wall, or a low privacy wall
  • No need to pour a concrete footing for installation.
  • Walls provide backfill drainage.

Benefits of Link Block Retaining Walls

There are many benefits to installing linking segmental retaining walls. These include:

  • Easy to install and create complex shapes including straight lined walls, curved walls and incorporate steps and corners.
  • Good for widening areas that would otherwise be unusable due to the natural slope of the land. These can be used for widening driveways or walkways, or creating more space for a patio outdoor area.
  • Makes grade changes simple and easy to construct.
  • Can be constructed quickly when compared to installing other types of retaining walls, and even many types of fences.

Without retaining walls provide lateral support to vertical slopes of soil, these slopes would simply collapse or erode away into a more natural shape, so why not use this space to bring a sense of awe to your landscaping.
